Uptime monitoring basics for web apps
HTTP checks, alert routing, and public status pages. What to monitor on day one and what to add as you scale.
Uptime tools are only useful when they tell you something before your customers do. Start with checks that mirror real user journeys, not just a ping to your load balancer.
Monitor what users hit
Add an HTTP monitor for your marketing site, app login, and API health endpoint. Set intervals based on how quickly you can respond: one minute for revenue paths, five minutes for docs.
Incidents and alerts
When a check fails, open an incident automatically. Route alerts to email or Discord so the on-call engineer does not need to watch a dashboard. Resolve incidents when checks pass again to keep history accurate.
Share status publicly
A public status page cuts support tickets during partial outages. Enable one per project, link it from your footer, and let subscribers see monitor history without logging into your dashboard.
